“No magic will enable me to reap the physical and mental rewards of an active life”

Fra Fiona Gunn vinner av adventskalender 2014Guest blog: Fiona Gunn, winner of Advent Calendar 2014

Eight weeks on from our fabulous two week holiday in Norway, I sometimes have to pinch myself and ask, “Did that really happen?”

I was very privileged to win the CERG 2014 Advent calendar trip to Norway. My son, Eddie and I spent tow weeks travelling by train, plane, ship, car and ferry, through Oslo, Bergen, Trondheim and the Lofoten Islands, during the Norwegian summer. Being a New Zealander, I did wonder if I was going to see a larger version of the beautiful scenery that I am so used to seeing in New Zealand. There are similarities, however I struggle to find the words to describe the vast beauty of Norway.

Used to exercise to look like Daisy Duke – but now our main winner of the Advent Calendar has another reason

10856841_10152975401287498_5758103577617328176_o“I used to exercise because I wanted to look like Daisy Duke (80’s TV program ‘Dukes of Hazard’) when she wore her red bikini. There was always an excuse why that didn’t happen. By looking around and seeing how limiting inactivity can make your life as you get older, I see that there are far more dire outcomes than looking fat in a bikini. I now exercise because I want to be able to participate in life fully for the rest of my life, with no regrets about missing out because I didn’t treat my body well enough when I should have”
Fiona Gunn, winner of our Advent Calendar Christmas Eve

We totally recognize our self in Fionas reason, and hope that many others also find more importand and inspiering reasons to exercise than looking like someone else. But we have all had that feeling, haven’t we?

We had three finalists in our Advent calander. Fiona is our main winner and gets a roundtrip to Trondheim and a day at CERG. The two other gets a pair of trainers:

Bente Pedersen has sent inseveral pictures and reasons to exercise. Here is one of them:

“I exercise mostly 3 times a week about 1 1/2 hour to maintain body functions as good as possible. In addition I do a lot of walking and don’t use my car often. So age (75) is fortunately just a number so far.”

– I exercise because I had health problems

Martin Maguire“I exercise because two years ago I had a few health problems. When I went to see a doctor, he said: “There is nothing wrong with you, you’re just too fucking fat”. He said that if I continued what I was doing I was on course for heart disease or diabetes. I was shocked but it’s what I needed to hear. If only more doctors spoke like that. I have since lost over 15 kgs and exercise at least three times a week. #CERGxmas”
